Tennessee football has had a rough start to 2017 and head coach Butch Jones is firmly on the hot seat. Is it time for a new man to take charge in Knoxville?

Butch Jones is on the hot seat. There’s “no doubt about it“. The Vols have had a wild ride at head coach since the firing of Phil Fulmer at the end of 2008. Fulmer was followed by Lane Kiffin, Derek Dooley and now Butch Jones. The Vols have had a winning season in four of those eight years, although Butch Jones does have three those seasons under his belt.

Tennessee expects more than an overtime victory over Georgia Tech and losses to the Florida Gators. A loss to Georgia might be one loss too many. Jones is sitting in the shadows of Johnny Majors and Phil Fulmer- two coaching legends in the college ranks. Fulmer won a national title in 1998 with a 13-0 record after failing to do so with Peyton Manning at quarterback for four years. After that ’98 title Fulmer had four double-digit win seasons before being fired after a 5-7 season.

The Vols’ fans might be unreasonable but there’s no reason a team situated in Knoxville, Tennessee with a 100,000+ person stadium and their financial backing can’t win 9-plus games annually. The Vols should be more competitive in the chase for who loses to Alabama in the SEC Championship game.

This off-season could be rather wild around the country. There are some major coordinators up for grabs, along with head coaches at mid-majors and less generous power 5 programs, and even former NFL coaches.

Here are the three revelations from the Vol’s fanbase and three reasons why it might be time for Tennessee football to move on from Butch Jones.
