Texas Football: Iowa State win reveals concerns for Longhorns
By Shelbie Warr
It wasn’t the prettiest of wins, but it was one for Texas against Iowa State on Thursday night. Here are my five overreactions from the match up.
The question of the day in Austin always seems to be the same. Is Texas back? After Thursday night, that would be a resounding no in my book. Unless back is defined as mediocrity and the possibility of missing a bowl game, then sure they’re back.
The season is long and a lot can change, but from what I see this team has a lot of issues. If you haven’t already guessed my point of view on the Longhorns or want to hear more, here are my five overreactions from the game.
1. They haven’t looked the part
This isn’t my Aggie side talking, this is just the plain truth after watching the game unfold. Texas is having issues sustaining an offense consistently and has too many question marks to be considered a contender for anything. The defense is considered strong, although that will be put to test against red-hot Oklahoma in a few weeks.
Sure, they hung in with USC a week ago. But, USC just lost to Washington State so is that even a benchmark for success? I could be completely wrong about the Longhorns, but from where I’m sitting this team doesn’t seem to be destined for success anytime soon. A loss to Maryland and 17 points against Iowa State doesn’t scream “back”.
