Texas Football: Iowa State win reveals concerns for Longhorns
By Shelbie Warr
3. Chris Warren is the only reliable part of the Texas offense
Chris Warren is no stranger to Texas fans. The junior has spent two full seasons in the backfield for the Longhorns, though he has never been the go to back. Which is honestly just wrong.
The guy also seems to be getting limited touches this season and it’s simply confusing. He’s had all of 42 touches on the season to date, and it’s been four weeks. If he is the most consistent part of your offense, which he is, then he should have the ball in his hands more often. The Horns would be more likely to see more of this if that were the case.
Tom Herman has a lot to figure out on the offensive side of the ball. If Shane Buechele is going to be the starter, he has to be more confident and get the ball into the hands of those who know what to do with it. Two touchdowns isn’t going to win a lot of the games on Texas’ schedule. It’s just not.
The answer to this? Get Warren the ball, early and often. He’ll carry the offense on his back this season, I promise.
