No. 11 Ohio State was never in danger of losing on the road at Rutgers on Saturday. The Buckeyes led 35-0 by halftime, as the Scarlet Knights had no answer for their Big Ten East rivals. The defense pitched a shutout against their hosts, running away with a 56-0 victory to move to 4-1 on the season.
Starting quarterback J.T. Barrett came out of the game before the end of the third quarter after a strong performance. Barrett finished 14-of-22 for 275 yards and three touchdowns through the air and piled up another 89 rushing yards on 10 carries. The Buckeyes defense held Rutgers to just 209 total yards of offense as they failed to reach the endzone.
Ohio State heads back to Columbus for next week’s showdown against Maryland. The Buckeyes then head to Lincoln to face Nebraska before their bye week. Urban Meyer’s team looks like a top 10 team and will probably jump a spot or two in this week’s AP Top 25 after overwhelming the Scarlet Knights this weekend.
