Vanderbilt hung with No. 21 Florida through the first half of their showdown in Nashville on Saturday. The two teams were tied 17-17 at the intermission, and it appeared that the SEC East battle could go down to the wire. Once the second half started, though, the Commodores faded down the stretch as the Gators clamped down on defense.

Feleipe Franks showed why he’s the best quarterback on the Gators roster, coming in midway through the game and throwing for 185 yards on 10-of-14 passing. Malik Davis led things in the backfield with 17 carries for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Lamical Perine pitched in another 58 yards and three scores on 15 carries.

The definitive victory could push the Gators a spot or two up the AP Top 25 hierarchy. Jim McElwain’s team plays LSU and Texas A&M at home over the next two weeks before their bye, then square off against Georgia in the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party on October 28 in a game that looks likely to decide the SEC East.
