Some losses will always be worse than others. Who suffered the most painful defeats this week? Here are the three worst losses of Week 5 action.

Now that ties have been eliminated from college football for the past two decades, there is inevitably a winner and a loser in every contest. The introduction of the Kansas rules in 1996 made draws a thing of the past. Now, no matter how many overtimes it may take, someone always walks away happy while the other side leaves disappointed.

Sometimes, though, the disappointment stings far more than it might usually feel. The disappointment can take many forms. In some cases, it is a huge blowout that causes the pain. Other times, it is a last-minute comeback that wrenches the heartstrings. The loss might come against a conference rival, or it might come against a lesser-regarded opponent.

Not all losses are created equal. As the BCS and the College Football Playoff have taught fans, there are quality losses and then there are utter failures that can tank an entire season. Losses come in many flavors, and we’re here each week to assess which tasted the most bitter for the teams that sustained them.

Who leaves Week 5 most depressed about the defeats they took over the weekend? Keep reading to see our choices for the three worst losses of the week.
