2. Devwah Whaley finally broke out

The thing that a lot of Arkansas fans have been waiting for finally happened. Sophomore running back Devwah Whaley had his breakout game against New Mexico State. True freshman Chase Hayden and senior David Williams had led the way up to that point.

Last week, Whaley rushed for 119 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries. Now, Whaley is the leading rusher for the Hogs with three more yards than Hayden. However, Williams and Hayden both have four rushing touchdowns while Whaley only has two.

The breakout of the talented former four-star recruit signifies progress in the Arkansas offense. Both Whaley and Allen had the results expected from them during the preseason. That bodes well for the Hogs before they enter the bulk of SEC play.

Whaley is likely to get most of the workload for the Hogs again. There seems to be a good three-running back system worked out. We’ll see a good helping of all three running backs as Arkansas will try to command possession time against the Gamecocks.
