With Notre Dame’s bye coming after this week’s matchup with North Carolina, the Irish will play only three games this month. They’ll kick off October on the road against North Carolina before resting up a week prior to their Week 8 matchup with USC. Notre Dame will round out the month with a matchup against 24th ranked N.C. State.

Junior quarterback Brandon Wimbush has averaged 156.4 passing yards per game this season, putting him on pace for about 470 yards over the month of October. However, Notre Dame’s schedule does get tougher as the month goes on.

While Wimbush’s status for this week’s game is still in question, indications have leaned towards him playing. Should he suit up, expect more of the same from an Irish offense that has focused completely on the run this season. The first year starter has thrown only 132 passes all season and is on pace to finish with one of the lowest attempts per game averages in the nation.

Little is likely to change in games against a weak UNC rush defense and two ranked opponents. While Wimbush enjoyed his largest passing total against one of the nation’s best defenses in Georgia, he won’t have those same opportunities against teams like USC and N.C. State that are more susceptible to the run.
