Ole Miss Football: 5 Bold predictions in October
2. Ole Miss goes at least 3-1 in October
I know, I know, but let me explain. As I’ve already mentioned Ole Miss faces Auburn, Vanderbilt, LSU and Arkansas this month. The only one of those games not in Oxford, Mississippi is this weekend at Auburn. LSU and Arkansas are the most winnable games for the Rebels. Ole Miss will look to get a win over LSU in Ed Orgeron’s return to Oxford as a head coach.
The Rebels also know that they owe Arkansas some over due payback. Arkansas has beaten Ole Miss three years in a row but they look like a much more vulnerable team this year compared to years past. Vanderbilt beat Ole Miss last season but the Rebels have the ability to beat the Commodores. Even they can force Kyle Shurmur into bad decisions then the Rebels have a shot.
The only game that Ole Miss realistically should lose is to Auburn. Auburn is a very good team that went toe to toe with Clemson and looks to be hitting their stride now after that big win over Mississippi State. Of course there is always a chance that Ole Miss could beat Auburn. There’s a reason the games aren’t played on paper, you just never know. The Rebels could upset Auburn and then drop a game to Vandy, LSU or Arkansas. That is just how college football is; it can be hard to predict.
As with my prediction, I think October sets up well for Ole Miss. The Rebels don’t have anything to play for which makes them dangerous. Auburn is firmly in the SEC West hunt, LSU technically still has a shot in the SEC West, and Vanderbilt is still in the race in the East. All of those teams have something to play for which adds pressure.
As long as the offense gets going and the defense looks more like how they looked against Cal, then Ole Miss can definitely go at least 3-1 in October.
