2. Miami has major issues to repair

While Miami did beat FSU in Tally, the Canes have major issues to repair before a slate that includes the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the Hokies, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and a strong passing attack from the Virginia Cavaliers.

The FSU go ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter was another play where fans watched defensive back Dee Delaney chase a wide open receiver down- too little, too late. Blown coverage was an issue for Miami against Bethune Cookman and Toledo early on.

If Miami can’t fix these blown coverage issues passing attacks from UVA and Virginia Tech will beat up on the Canes. Then there’s the Georgia Tech Flexbone. Miami gave up 203 yards rushing against a weak FSU offensive line. Miami has to get their run defense right in a hurry before taking on the Jackets’ triple option offense. The Tech offense is averaging 390+ yards per rush on the season and while Miami caused turnovers that led to scores in 2016, that timing meets preparation isn’t something you can count on as a coach.

Miami will have to figure out a scheme to play against Georgia Tech, and use that scheme to shut down a potent Tech offense and quarterback TaQuon Marshall. Marshall is averaging 5+ yards per carry and could cause the Canes defense issues if they keep blowing assignments and missing tackles like they did against the Noles.
