2. The Irish backfield can make any quarterback look good

At the end of the day, it didn’t really matter who the Irish started at quarterback as their backfield exploded for 341 rushing yards. Star back Josh Adams also maintained his stellar yards per carry average, finishing with 118 yards on 13 carries. Book’s two interceptions were easily overlooked due to an overall solid offensive performance, much thanks to Adams and Co.

The Irish proved that it didn’t really matter who they handed the ball off to, as Deon McIntosh rushed for 124 yards on 12 carries himself. With Adams and junior Dexter Williams both fighting off injuries, having solid relievers in the backfield will allow the Irish to take it easy on their top backs week in and week out.

As scary as this rushing attack has been, Adams continues to impress despite a lack of carries. Adams currently enjoys one of the greatest yards per carry averages in the country yet still managed to raise it in today’s matchup with the Tar Heels. Don’t expect much to change as the Irish challenge teams such as USC, N.C. State, and Miami down the stretch.

Adams and his fellow backs continue to prove why they are one of the best running back units in the nation. While many of their games up to this point have come against sub-par competition, they will have the ability to build their resume against the Trojans and Wolfpack later this month. Until then, their success warrants nothing but praise.
