5. Barrett is a three-time captain
Not only is J.T. Barrett a captain, he’s the first three-time captain in Ohio State history. The Buckeyes’ locker room belongs to Barrett.
It’s very clear that his teammates respect him.
This may end up being an important factor. A divided locker room would put more weight on the argument of a quarterback change, but it’s unlikely to happen.
On-field leadership will play a role too. Simply having poise and not being caught up in the moment of a big game is important for a quarterback. There aren’t many situations that would phase J.T. at this point.
Barrett doesn’t have the best arm talent of all the quarterbacks in college football, but he’s a respectable player because of what he’s accomplished. The leadership he brings is arguably one of the best that Ohio State has ever seen.
His 41 games played isn’t something a drill in practice can replicate. Experience and leadership matters in football.
