There might not be another Mike Williams on the roster for Clemson at wide receiver, but that doesn’t mean they are hurting for skill at that position.
With a huge need to be able to create down the field, the Tigers have loaded up at receiver over the past years.
Ray-Ray McCloud is as dangerous of player in college football, having already scored on a 79-yard touchdown pass and shown flashes of breaking one in the return game. He is the current leading receiver for the Tigers, catching 26 passes for 291 yards — an average of 11 per catch.
Hunter Renfrow is back as possibly the best third-down receiver in the nation. After catching the game-winning touchdown vs. Alabama last year to secure the national championship, Renfrow has already hauled in a team-high 29 passes for 282 yards.
As far as regulars in the rotation, Deon Cain is the closest to Mike Williams that Clemson has. He’s been slowed by a lack of consistency with new quarterback Kelly Bryant, but still has 17 receptions for 244 yards, including a huge 61-yard touchdown connection.
Tee Higgins and Amari Rodgers are the next wave, as the true freshmen were prized recruits and expected to continue to grow over this season and into the next one.
