Baylor Football: Will the Bears avoid going 0-12?
If everything goes right
vs West Virginia – Oct. 21, vs Texas Oct. 28
By “everything goes right” we mean everything. Baylor doesn’t have much reason for optimism against any of these first four teams. However, of those that currently sit at the top of the standings it’s West Virginia and Texas that seem more fallible.
West Virginia has gotten the benefit of the doubt so far this year, but they haven’t proven that they truly belong in the Big 12 Title race. They had their chance against the Horned Frogs but fell just short. Will Grier has been stellar, and the Mountaineers’ receiving corps might be the best in the conference. The defense, however, has been prone to giving up the big play. If Baylor has enough big plays in them they could make a game with West Virginia interesting.
Texas forced USC to overtime and lost. They went to overtime once more with Kansas State and won. Then there’s the Maryland game. Tom Herman has proven he can show up in big games, but his teams have also been prone to disappearing against lower-caliber opponents. His Houston team lost to SMU and Memphis. SMU was bad last year, really bad. Why can’t Baylor be the next SMU?
