After its bye week, Tennessee welcomes South Carolina to Neyland Stadium. The Gamecocks are 4-2 after a victory over Arkansas last week. The Vols are a slight three-point favorite, which makes sense for this series. The last five games between the schools has been decided by three points or less.

Unless something crazy happens, the SEC East is out of the question for Tennessee since they have lost to both Georgia and Florida. But for the Gamecocks, they have yet to play either of those teams so a win against Tennessee is a must to keep pace in the division.

The Vols will be breaking in a new starting quarterback. Head coach Butch Jones will give the keys to the offense to redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano. He’s a dual-threat and brings some flash to an offense that has been sorely lacking, but Guarantano lacks experience. Look for the Gamecocks to get after him early.

South Carolina is also good at not making mistakes. They do not turnover the ball much and in the last 3 games, they were penalized a grand total of six times. The Gamecocks have the fewest penalty yards in the nation. The Vols should not expect South Carolina to beat themselves.

Back in August, I predicted South Carolina would lose to Tennessee, but I have changed my mind after watching both teams this season. While the change at quarterback might spark the Vols offense a little, the Gamecocks will not make the mistakes the Vols will need to win. South Carolina will do just enough on offense to pull off the minor upset.
