Louisville Football: Positional report card for first half of 2017
By Jesse Smith
The injury to junior receiver Jaylen Smith hurts this group, but since we believe the injury isn’t season ending we will make sure we grade this group on a better scale. Smith was the leading receiver on the team until Thursday and he’s been out three games. He has 22 receptions for 379 yards and two touchdowns.
The new leading receiver is freshman Dez Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick has 26 receptions for 414 yards and six touchdowns. Not too bad for a freshman right? He has been the steading force for Jackson as Smith is healing.
Seth Dawkins has 23 receptions for 371 yards and two touchdowns. Which are solid numbers also.
This group without Smith has had a case of the drops at time, but still makes big plays which will push their grade up.
Charles Standberry is the team’s leading tight end with 15 catches, 143 yards and two touchdowns. Because of the skill at receiver the tight end position isn’t used as much, but Standberry has been proven effective in limited opportunities.
Overall this is a very good group of players so they will be graded accordingly.
