Quarterback

Grade: B+

Without question, Shea Patterson is the face of Ole Miss football for the 2017 season. The sophomore gunslinger played in three games as a true freshman and flashed the abilities that made him such a highly regarded quarterback recruit. Midway through 2017, Patterson has been all that he was billed to be and has proven to be a great leader for this team. Patterson leads the SEC in passing yards with 1,792 yards and leads the conference with 13 passing touchdowns.

The only reason this grade isn’t higher is that Patterson is still young. He’s had a couple silly interceptions on the year but his attempts to extend plays are what concern me.

Extending a play is fine, but Patterson has to realize when they play is over and get rid of the ball. He’s scrambled his way into losing 10-15 yards on a play multiple times. I get, he’s a competitor and wants to do what he can for his team. Sometimes the best thing for your team is to just throw it out of bounds or take the sack.

This will come with time so I’m not exactly worried about Patterson. He’ll grow, but for now that’s why I give him a grade of B+.
