Defensive Backs

Grade: C

The Rebel secondary is perhaps the youngest position group on the team. Most players like Myles Hartsfield, Zedrick Woods, Jaylon Jones and Jalen Julius are all sophomores. AJ Moore and Ken Webster are the starting seniors for this group.

To date, the secondary has been decent. They haven’t been overwhelmingly bad but they haven’t been really good either. As mentioned, this group is young, therefore they often play like it. They’ve given up some big plays, particularly against Cal, Alabama and Auburn. They’ll get a chance to improve this week against Vanderbilt.

The schedule going forward also serves to better this group. LSU and Arkansas aren’t known to be great passing teams. The best passing team they have left to face is Texas A&M. That favors this unit well meaning they should be able to lockdown opposing offenses and get some interceptions.

Going forward looking at 2018, this could be a very special group as most of the secondary players will only be juniors.
