Ole Miss Football: 2017 midseason grades by position
Special Teams
Grade: C
Its been a rough go for the Ole Miss special teams unit in 2017. To be fair, its not exactly their fault for this grade. Kicker Gary Wunderlich’s senior season has been all but ruined by a nagging hamstring injury that has seen him uncharacteristically missing field goals and extra points. He can go on to still have a good season, but it all hinges on that injury finally healing.
Punter Will Gleeson has had a solid senior season, although he hasn’t been sent out to punt all that much. Regardless, he’s shown his strong leg and shown improved accuracy with his punts.
In the return department, punt returns finally feel dangerous, in a good way, for Ole Miss. AJ Brown returning punts is scary. He’s a big receiver that’s ready to take it to the house on every punt. He’s also smart enough to know when to fair catch.

Overall this unit has been successful, just not as much as it could have been had the injury to Wunderlich not have happened.
