1. Sooners win on a missed Texas field goal

Texas has had its fair share of gaffes in recent years on special teams. The 2015 campaign where they lost to the Cal Golden Bears on a missed extra point and to Oklahoma State on a botched punt and field goal still ring clear in the minds of Texas fans.

Junior kicker Joshua Rowland has not missed an extra point yet, but he has missed more than half of his field goal attempts. Moreover, he’ll be facing one of the more established kickers in the Big 12 in OU’s Austin Seibert.

The chances that Texas has of winning this game would decrease if it came down to a long field attempted by Rowland. He nearly cost the Longhorns against Kansas State with two missed field goals as well. One of those missed fields goals was from less than 29 yards out.

Red River usually promises a very entertaining matchup. This year should be no different with an OU team coming off a huge loss and Texas undefeated in conference play entering the game. Two first-year head coaches will also be pushing to establish themselves as well.
