1. Travis Homer wasn’t a “doh”

Travis Homer was the much bicep’ed little used running back for Miami in 2016. Homer ran seven times for 44 yards in all of his freshman season.

In 2017, Homer had to move up the depth chart because of the departures of Joe Yearby to the “NFL” and Gus Edwards to Rutgers. Sometimes there’s addition by subtraction in the war of attrition that is a college football roster. With Yearby and Edwards out of the way — Homer was allowed to get carries in scrimmages and with the first string and second string offenses for the spring and summer of 2017.

Homer came alive late against the Florida State Seminoles after Mark Walton went down again with injury. Homer had three carries for 29 yards when Miami needed it the most against the ‘Noles and now in his first career start against the Yellow Jackets, Miami needed a big game from Homer. He more than delivered with 20 carries for 170 yards which is 8.5 yards per carry for the ‘Canes offense. He scored two touchdowns — one rushing and one receiving to lead Miami to victory over the Jackets.

Homer has proven that Miami is doing a great job preparing their young players and re-couping the older players that came to Miami under Al Golden. Think about guys that were little used like Malik Rosier and Darrell Langham. Rosier has led three amazing comebacks now between Duke in 2015 and FSU and Georgia Tech in 2017. Langham went from bench warmer to hero against FSU with the game winning catch and now another fourth down great play against Tech to keep the ‘Canes alive.
