3. Kenny Hill is still a work in progress at quarterback for TCU

Kenny Hill had another decent game at quarterback for TCU, leading the Horned Frogs to a sixth straight victory on Saturday in Manhattan. Hill was 27-of-37 passing for 297 yards, and he did not cough up either an interception or a fumble. The speedy dual-threat athlete added another 13 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Not every incompletion was entirely his fault, either. KaVontae Turpin dropped a clear touchdown pass that was put expertly on his hands in stride. Several other receivers dropped well-thrown balls as well. Hill, if anything, has been underrated throwing the ball for the Horned Frogs.

On several occasions, though, Gary Patterson and the offensive coaching staff elected to take out Hill in critical goal-line situations. The quarterback was pulled in favor of Wildcat formations on several drives. Even though he is the most talented passer on the roster, Hill remains a situational liability in the red zone in the eyes of the staff.

The transfer from Texas A&M has been both a blessing and a curse for the Horned Frogs. So far the coaching staff has maximized his upside and minimized his mistakes with a sound offensive game plan. In his second year as the TCU starter, Hill must continue to develop and gain more trust from the coaches if the team is going to win the rest of their Big 12 challenges and threaten to break into the College Football Playoff.
