Forming a connection

Mike Leach has had trouble with school officials at both Texas Tech and Washington State, but Bill Moos is different.

The 66-year-old Moos hired Leach in 2011 to resurrect the Cougars, which he did by winning 23 games since 2015 including the Sun Bowl. Washington State went 6-3 three years ago in the Pac-12 and followed that up with a 7-2 mark a season ago.

Moos completely talked about Leach during his introductory press conference in Lincoln on Sunday, saying of his now-former head coach “He’s a brilliant individual. He’s done a remarkable job.”

That most definitely doesn’t sound like an individual who is prepared to ignore Leach when he removes Riley from the role as head coach.

Bringing Leach to Lincoln and the Midwest would take complete support, as it would be a culture shock for both the coach and program. Having someone he trusted would likely be the only way Leach would head to Nebraska.
