Loser: Washington State Cougars (from No. 8 to No. 15)

The honeymoon phase is over for the Washington State Cougars in 2017. They were utterly dominated Friday night in their 37-3 loss to the California Golden Bears. It was a funky #Pac12AfterDark Friday the 13th edition that went about as unexpected as it could possibly go.

Quarterback Luke Falk threw five interceptions and had a fumble in the game. He entered the game throwing just two interceptions on 262 pass attempts. Falk still finished the game 28-of-43 with 292 passing yards but had no touchdown passes.

The California defense turned up the volume a bit in Week 7 and Falk ended up being sacked nine times in the game as a result. Early turnovers put the Cougars down in the game early and they were ultimately unable to recover. The Washington State offense finished the game with seven turnovers and were 4-of-16 on third down conversions.

The Cougars still control their own destiny in the Pac-12 North but early whispers of a College Football Playoff berth have ceased at this point.

This week the Washington State Cougars host the Colorado Buffaloes. Let’s see if Luke Falk can bounce back this Saturday.
