1. Wimbush enters with more experience

One of the more significant aspects of Wimbush’s game has been his maturity, particularly in terms of taking care of the football. The junior suffered through a bit of a rough patch over a two week span, turning the ball over four times against Georgia and Boston College. However, he has turned the ball over only once outside of that stretch, displaying both maturity and resiliency.

Much of this is due to the amount of experience Wimbush has received on the bench. While Kizer received his first start as a sophomore, Wimbush recorded his first as a junior. A year of extra development can go a long way in college, and it’s already paying dividends for the Irish in terms of Wimbush’s early success.

The Irish tend to wait a while when it comes to throwing their quarterbacks into the fire, but Kizer’s exciting potential in the midst of quarterback troubles left Kelly with little choice. This sentiment was made clear by Kelly’s previously mentioned comments, signifying that even he believed his group was not given enough time to get the most out of Kizer.

At the end of the day, it’s very difficult to compare two different players with such variations in playing style. However, there are ways to construe certain ideas when the question does arise. Statistics and personal testimony aside, the record speaks for itself when it comes to Wimbush’s success as a member of the Fighting Irish.
