Reason 3: Ole Miss defense is coming around

The Rebels had a slow start on defense to begin 2017 and while it isn’t perfect, the defense is improving. Moving Breeland Speaks to defensive end has been a game changer for the Rebels and allows them to have two excellent pass rushers on the edge. Marquis Haynes showed up in the Vanderbilt game to the tune of 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. If Haynes maintains that level of play against LSU, then it could be a very long day for Tiger quarterback Danny Etling.

The passing defense has improved, although stats aren’t indicative of that. Cornerback Javion Hamilton has been a shutdown corner all year and had a pick against Vanderbilt.

The Rebel defense still allowed 35 points last week but it was by far their best effort of the year. Giving up 35 points really doesn’t matter when your offense is humming either. If Ole Miss carries over their effort from the Vandy game, which I think they will then the Rebels have a good shot at winning.

LSU isn’t known for having a spectacular offense; which means that Ole Miss has to keep Derrius Guice in check. If Guice is able to get the run game going for LSU, then the game will heavily favor the Tigers.
