Wisconsin Football: 3 Takeaways from the Badgers’ win over Maryland
By Shawn Ekwall
Tight end Troy Fumagalli made his presence felt Saturday. The senior hauled in seven catches for 83 yards. But more importantly he provides Hornibrook with a security blanket in the passing game. His big-body over the middle is difficult to cover and the Terps certainly had their troubles.
Fumagalli has been nursing a leg injury, but looked to be near full-strength on Saturday. He sat out last Saturday’s 17-9 win over Purdue. Hornibrook looked his direction many times over the middle – converting first downs on several occasions.
If Fumagalli can remain healthy over the final month of the season, the Badgers’ offense becomes even more difficult to defend. They aren’t flashy, but they are productive and very balanced. Four of the Badgers’ touchdown drives covered 70 yards or more.
Having Fumagalli as a safety blanket paired with the dynamic running ability of Jonathan Taylor makes the Badgers’ offense just dangerous enough to keep every defense they face on their toes. Hornibrook doesn’t have to be incredible every Saturday, he just needs to find his play makers and trust them to make plays.
