SEC Football Power Rankings 2017: LSU on the rise in Week 9
Ole Miss wasn’t able to take the momentum of their win over Vanderbilt and translate it into a good game/win against LSU. The game was bad all around for Ole Miss as the offense was out of sync for most of the game. Quarterbacks and receivers had almost no connections all night. The defense was gashed repeatedly on the ground by LSU to the tune of almost 400 rushing yards. The bright spot however was Jordan Wilkins and Eric Swinney on the ground, which will prove vital going forward for the rest of the season.
Worse than the game however for the Rebels was the injury to starting quarterback Shea Patterson. Patterson was injured close to the end of the half but came back out in the second half and wasn’t his usual self. What was initially a knee sprain turned out to be a torn PCL in his knee. The Rebels will turn to backup quarterback Jordan Ta’amu for the rest of the season.
Kentucky is our biggest mover in the rankings and not in a good direction for the Wildcats. Kentucky was ranked third in the conference after moving up a slot by default from Auburn’s loss. The Wildcats now find themselves at the ninth spot, because they failed to show up in Starkville, Mississippi on Saturday. This game should’ve been better than it was and I really don’t think Mississippi State is that much better than Kentucky, but they sure looked like it in this game.
Kentucky couldn’t stop Bulldogs quarterback Nick Fitzgerald and the Wildcat offense was no where to be seen. Kentucky is still a good team, but they won’t be challenging for the SEC East crown this season. Not to mention their still 5-2, with plenty left to play for. This was just a bad showing against a better team.
