5. Texas won’t make a bowl game

Making a bowl game would mean that Texas wins three of its final five contests. While it’s certainly possible that the Longhorns will make a bowl game, it would mean likely taking down one or two top 25 teams.

The rest of the schedule holds the Baylor Bears, TCU, Kansas Jayhawks, West Virginia Mountaineers, and Texas Tech Red Raiders. Baylor and Kansas should be won by the Longhorns, but it’s going to be hard to take down West Virginia, TCU, and Texas Tech.

There’s no room for slip ups for the Longhorns the rest of the way. This would also be the third consecutive season that Texas went without making a bowl game. All the heartbreaking defeats that Texas has gone through seems worse now.

The Longhorns are so close to being a one or two loss team right now. The start to the conference slate was rough as well. Landing Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Iowa State in the first four is not an easy start for a team looking to rebound.
