2. Zach Smith has confidence

Zach Smith was having a tough time getting in rhythm against West Virginia. Matt Rhule said after the game that Smith was battling stomach flu and wasn’t feeling well. Even with illness, Smith still managed 261 yards passing in only three quarters of play.

Many people thought that Rhule would name Charlie Brewer as the starter due to his play in fourth quarter. Rhule however stated that Smith would still be starter for Texas game. That doesn’t mean there wont be packages for Brewer. Rhule made it clear that he has the utmost confidence in Smith to lead his team.

This vote of confidence from Rhule has got to make Smith feel secure in his role as a team leader. Earlier in the month, Smith was given a final single-digit jersey number changing from No. 11 to No. 8. Rhule assigns single-digits to team leaders as a reward for toughness and leadership.
