2. Brandon Wimbush throws for 250 yards

As mentioned before, Georgia, Michigan State, and NC State all have similar defenses in terms of the pass game. However, what makes this game different from the rest is the Wolfpack’s abysmal pass defense. While the Spartans and Bulldogs have limited opponents to averages of 168 and 170 passing yards, respectively, NC State has allowed 287 per game, good for 122nd in the nation.

While Wimbush has yet to reach 250 passing yards in a game up to this point in his college career, that could certainly come to an end this week against one of the nation’s worst pass defenses. The junior has seen north of 25 passing attempts only twice this season, turning both of those opportunities in for season highs of 184 and 210 yards.

Given NC State’s proficiency against the run this season, it’s fair to expect a similar amount of attempts for Wimbush in this game. However, unlike Georgia and Temple who were more capable against the pass, Wimbush may be able to cash these opportunities in for more profitable results.

With such a great opportunity to develop Wimbush’s passing skills present, Saturday wouldn’t be the first time this season that head coach Brian Kelly has opted to go run-heavy instead. Wimbush has had opportunities to fine-tune his passing skills against the likes of Boston College and Miami of Ohio, but Kelly has chosen differently. However, this week’s matchup may force Kelly’s hand.
