NFL Mock Draft 2018: Updated first round after Week 9
There are going to be a lot of risky picks in the draft. The teams that go for broke and select a quarterback at the top of the draft know they’re playing with fire. For some they’ll strike it rich, but others will stay locked in the endless cycle of quarterback purgatory.
The NFL Draft has no sure things, but when it comes to safe picks, going with a defender from Alabama is as close as it gets.
Crimson Tide defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick fits the “best player available” mold that NFL GMs always come back to. He’s quick, intelligent and versatile. He’s lined up just about everywhere in the backfield for the Tide so far and has proven to be a lock down corner as well as a play-making safety/
Selecting Mitchell Trubisky No. 2 overall was an extremely risky move last year. So far he’s been a serviceable quarterback in the limited amount of game time he’s been given. The Bears need to follow up that roll of the dice with a high-floor pick. No player is bust proof, but Minkah Fitzpatrick might be pretty darn close.
Fitzpatrick has three passes defended this season, one interception and one sack. He picked up three tackles in a comfortable Alabama win over Tennessee prior to their bye in Week 9.
