3. Urban Meyer has established a championship pedigree

Only Alabama’s Nick Saban can be truly regarded as a better head coach than Urban Meyer. He’s taken the Buckeyes to a top-5 finish every season during the existence of the Playoff started in 2014. Ohio State also won that 2014 National Championship.

Even though the Buckeyes were handled by Clemson in the Semifinals last season, this is a different squad that is competing in 2017. Ohio State showed against Penn State that its ready for the big time this year.

Head coaches tend to repeat past patterns, and Meyer has won multiple National Championships with Ohio State and the Florida Gators in the last decade. Few coaches have as much winning experience as Meyer.

Pedigree should determine the initial ranking order to some extent. Ohio State was ranked too low in the first set and that could change quickly. Meyer knows what needs to be done for the Buckeyes to get into the field when it comes down to it.
