5. Charlie Brewer will take over starting role

Baylor started the season with graduate transfer Anu Solomon as the starter. Solomon has been battling head trauma issues and then the job was Zach Smith’s. He has played admirably in the six games he has started and he has shown a toughness playing behind a thin offensive line.

However, Charlie Brewer came in during fourth quarter of West Virginia game and led Baylor to 23 unanswered points.

Brewer shared time with Smith against Texas, throwing for 181 yards with a 63 percent completion rate but the latter struggled, going 4-of-11 for only 37 yards. Brewer played most of the game following an apparent shoulder injury to Smith.

The young quarterback will finish season as starter and go into 2018 as presumed No. 1 quarterback. The mobility of Brewer is a trait Smith does not possess and with a young offensive line, that is a valuable asset.

Brewer, a true freshman, had a 78 percent completion rate his senior year of high school. If he can have same efficiency at Baylor, it will be hard for Matt Rhule to not give him control of offense.
