3. Denzel Mims will finish with 1,000 yards receiving

Baylor has had few bright spots this year but one of them is the emergence of Denzel Mims. He has 37 receptions for 727 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 19.1 yards per reception. Mims has stepped up following the injury fellow speedster Chris Platt against Oklahoma.

Mims leads a receiving corps that has been decimated by injury. Joining Platt, receivers R.J. Sneed and Pooh Sticklin have both been injured this season as the former’s was season-ending. Against Texas, the Bears used players at receiver that haven’t played all year. Heck, they even had Blake Lynch play both ways following his move to defense before season started.

With games against Kansas and Texas Tech looming, Mims could have a big couple of weeks. Kansas gives up and average of 270 yards passing per game and Texas Tech’s defense is even worse, giving up 290 yards per game passing. Expect Baylor and Mims to take advantage of these defenses and put him over the 1,000 yard mark for the season.
