Nebraska Football: 5 bold predictions for Huskers in November 2017
By Shawn Ekwall
4. Stanley Morgan Jr. will break Johnny Rodgers‘ season-yardage record
Morgan enters November with a team-leading 652 receiving yards. He even missed the Rutgers game with an injury. Yet, with a good final month, will likely break Rodgers’ season-record of 942 receiving yards set back in 1972.
With already four games on the season with over 100-yards receiving, Morgan needs just 291 yards over the final four games to overtake Rodgers. With quarterback Tanner Lee starting to deal, Morgan is likely to be targeted frequently down the stretch. He was clutch Saturday against Purdue, and his 13-yard catch in the seam gave the Huskers the winning points with 14 seconds remaining.
Assuming the junior receiver remains healthy, he will likely find himself in the top-five of several Nebraska receiving records following his senior year in 2018. Morgan’s a big target and has taken on the role of go-to receiver quite well. Lee said the final touchdown play at Purdue was one they’d drilled ‘tirelessly’ in practice.
With Nebraska aiming to become bowl-eligible in November, look for Morgan to be an integral part of the journey. If he continues to produce over the final four games, the Huskers’ offense will be tough for opponents to defend.
