2. The Huskers will finish November 3-1

Consider this a bold prediction. Nebraska has the talent (and favorable schedule) to close the season on a 4-1 run (3-1 in November). The Huskers face Northwestern, Minnesota, Penn State, and Iowa to close the regular season. Of those games, three are winnable.  The talent is there to get it done.

It all starts with Saturday’s home contest against Northwestern. If Nebraska can ride the momentum from its comeback win over Purdue, the Huskers can upend the Wildcats. Tackling and holding down talented Cats’ running back Jackson will be key. If the beleaguered offensive line can give Lee time, he should have another good day in the passing game.

There’s too much talent on this team to finish the season with a whimper. I think Nebraska pulls out a close win over Northwestern. The do the same the following week at Minnesota, before falling at Penn State on Nov. 18. That leads me to the season-finale in Lincoln on Nov. 24 against Iowa.

Iowa pasted Nebraska 40-10 a year ago. Injuries riddled the Huskers the week of the game. Iowa was the more physical team and ran the ball right at the Huskers. It was an embarrassment all the way around for Riley and the program. Revenge will be on their minds. No way that happens again in Lincoln? Right?

If Nebraska can’t get itself up for a game against its rivals from across the Missouri River, then there’s something wrong. Pride will be on the line in that game, but here’s saying Nebraska will get the job done. The Huskers will be playing with late-season confidence and will finish November with a win over the Hawkeyes and a 7-5 record on the season.

Will it be enough to save Riley’s job?
