With Notre Dame football enjoying its best season since the program’s 2012 national championship run, here are a few things to look for as they face off against Wake Forest.

While the Irish have played exceptionally well so far, this season looks eerily familiar to the team’s 2015 run that ended in heartbreak. Head coach Brian Kelly’s DeShone Kizer-led Irish squad witnessed a similar start, dropping a tightly contested matchup to No. 12 Clemson early in the season. The team battled back but ended up losing to Stanford in Week 11, dashing their hopes of making the playoffs.

However, the Irish now have a fresh start and will look to put their troubles behind them by qualifying for their first playoff game in college football’s latest era. These hopes have become all the more real after victories against USC and NC State, making Saturday’s matchup just as pivotal as any game up to this point.

Many have held Notre Dame’s upcoming matchup as a trap game, contests that tend to finish one of two ways. The first likely result is that the underdog, catching their opponents off guard after numerous hard-fought contests, pulls out victory at the very last moment. However, just as prevalent is the case in which the favorites run their challenges into the ground.

The Irish will be hoping for the latter this Saturday. Nevertheless, here are three bold predictions as Notre Dame takes on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
