Must Read: Kevin Sumlin has a quarterback problem
Their full quarterback room was one of the reasons that Sumlin was though to have passed on Baylor transfer Jarrett Stidham. He wound up at Baylor and that left the Aggies with two viable starting candidates – Kellen Mond and Nick Starkel. Sumlin chose Starkel, but he went down in the season opener with a leg injury that paved the way for Mond.
Since Week 2, Mond has started every game for Texas A&M. At one point it looked like Starkel would be gone for the season. However, he surprised many by practicing before the Florida game and getting on the field for the first time against Mississippi State. He thew a beautiful long touchdown pass to Camron Buckley.
If Sumlin has learned anything to this point he has to know that flip-flopping starters is a bad idea. As tempting as it is, he sticks with Mond. Starkel doesn’t see the field, no matter the result.
