4. The Irish go without a turnover

The Irish haven’t surrendered a turnover with Wimbush under center since their Week 3 matchup with Boston College. Notre Dame’s protection of the football has led to the team sitting pretty at sixth in the nation in turnover margin. Defensive coordinator Mike Elko has his defense rolling out solid performance after solid performance, another contributing factor to the Irish’s strong start.

The Irish did have two turnovers against North Carolina, but both were results of misread coverage by backup quarterback Ian Book. Outside of Book’s performance against the Tar Heels, another month without a turnover would increase Notre Dame’s mistake-free streak to nine straight games.

However, their streak will certainly be tested against a Miami defense that has forced 16 turnovers on the season. The one aspect of Miami’s turnover proficiency that favors the Irish is the fact that the majority of the Hurricanes’ turnovers have come through interceptions. Wimbush, one of the nation’s most conservative passers, isn’t likely to give up much in that regard.

At the end of the day, the Irish are more than capable of making it through November without a turnover. Will it be easy? No. But adversity hasn’t seemed to bother a team that has taken down two top 15 teams in the last month. Don’t be surprised if the Irish increase one of the nation’s top turnover margin’s even further over the course of this month.
