2. The Egg Bowl gets ugly

I hate to make this prediction, but it could happen. I don’t mean this from a score stand point. With the play of the Ole Miss defense, an ugly score in favor of the Bulldogs is probably expected at this point. No, by ugly I mean things will get chippy.

The amount of bad blood in this rivalry has reached a fever pitch and I don’t envy any Rebel fan that voluntarily enters Davis-Wade Stadium in Starkville on Nov. 23.

The amount of hate stems from the recent successes of both teams, as well as what Rebel fans maintain as the role of Mississippi State in the Rebels’ NCAA investigation. These two teams have never cared for each other. But since the arrival of Dan Mullen in Starkville, the visceral hate on both sides has skyrocketed.

There are many fans of Ole Miss who consider LSU to be the true rival of the Rebels, but even they’re hard-pressed to hide the hate of the Bulldogs. The Rebel football players have heard the narrative surrounding Mississippi State, they’ll be ready to fight. The heckling that Ole Miss fans in the stands will face will test their patience. Who knows what could happen on Thanksgiving night in Starkville.

I honestly hope this prediction doesn’t come true, but as of now it looks like a possibility — especially if the game gets out of hand in favor of Mississippi State.
