2. Josh Jackson will be All-ACC in 2018

The Hokies’ young quarterback, Josh Jackson, will be an elite passer under Justin Fuente’s tutelage. Coach Fuente has a great offensive system for Jackson and the young man has looked sharp until facing the ‘Turnover Chain’ defense of Miami. Jackson had four interceptions in all of 2017 before facing Miami and throwing two interceptions to the chain gang.

Jackson has thrown for over 2,000 yards this season and 17 touchdowns with six interceptions. Jackson though, will become an elite passer by 2018. Jackson has jumped into the role replacing Jerod Evans who left after a successful year in Blacksburg. Jackson was able to move the ball, and could carry the football in the running game. The Hokies offense requires an accurate quarterback with some mobility, much like Miami’s.

However, the Hokies will need to establish a better running game before they can consistently challenge to get into the ACC title game. On the season, the Hokies are only averaging four yards per carry. Virginia Tech doesn’t have a single back that’s rushed for over 500 yards and only one back that’s ran for three touchdowns on the season.

As 2017 progresses, the Hokies will need to establish a running game and it can’t just be jet sweeps with Sean Savoy or risking injury to Jackson.
