Ian Book, a sophomore, has attempted just two passes since filling in for Wimbush back on Oct. 7 in a win over North Carolina when he was 17-of-31 for 146 yards.

But when Wimbush was forced out Saturday vs. Wake Forest, he rose to the occasion and kept the offense moving right along.

Book completed all eight of his pass attempts, covering 50 yards with a touchdown. He also added 54 yards rushing, including a 43-yard burst.

If anything the injury to Wimbush provided Kelly with a chance to see if he has a capable backup in Book. The answer is, he does.

On two different instances vs. Wake Forest Book was called upon, coming in when he was first hurt and taking over after his day was complete.

After not attempting a pass last year, Book is 28-of-49 for 247 yards with two touchdowns and two picks this season. He’s also rushed for 150 yards.
