3. Fisher’s buyout from Florida State is pricey

Jimbo Fisher’s buyout from Florida State has to be one of the main factors why this coaching candidate just isn’t all that realistic. While Texas A&M undoubtedly has the money to buy Fisher from his current contract if he were to ditch the Seminoles from the Aggies, it could be cash spent to find an even better fit for head coach.

Texas A&M needs to be smart with the money they allot for the head coaching search and if that means spending more on a younger coach rather than paying $7 million just to get Fisher out of his Florida State contract, then so be it.

The buyout is just all too pricey and that’s not even taking into consideration what it would cost to fire Kevin Sumlin and pay him the rest of his contract. In fact, if the Aggies were to let Sumlin go this season, they would owe him $11.25 million which is the remainder of the six-year deal he signed back in 2013.

This means that Texas A&M would pay $18.25 million to get Fisher and that’s not even counting the contract that he would sign. We are talking in the $30 million range, at least, for a coach that might not succeed in Aggieland.
