4. Running backs not living up to potential

It’s hard to say if this is an issue created from Bielema directly. But, Arkansas is a run-first offense and the ground game has not been great this season. Not only has Whaley not lived up to the hype, the Hogs also had an unexpected retirement from presumed starter Rawleigh Williams III prior to Week 1.

The future with true freshman running back Chase Hayden is bright, but he is out for the rest of the season due to injury. Hayden was the go-to option for Bielema until his injury. Whaley and senior David Williams have split carries since.

Looking back previous to Whaley and Williams III, Bielema had a lot of skilled rushers to work with between Alex Collins and Jonathan Williams. Collins was a five-star talent with a lot of pressure on his shoulders during his time in Fayetteville.

While Collins had a fantastic finish to his tenure with the Hogs in 2015, he is one of the rare cases. This year has been rough sledding for the Arkansas backfield and that could continue heading into 2018 if nothing is changed up.
