2. Brandon Wimbush is held for under 100 passing yards

Notre Dame’s best rushing performances often come at the expense of quarterback Brandon Wimbush’s passing stats, an occurrence that is likely to come to pass Saturday if the Irish can get what they want on the ground. With Adams primed for another big outing, don’t be surprised if Wimbush once again takes a back seat in the pass game.

Additionally, the Canes are much tougher defensively through their air than on the ground. Miami currently sits at 35th in the nation in passing yards allowed per game with an average of just over 197. This Miami defense has also forced 13 interceptions, helping contribute to them being ranked 11th in the nation in turnovers gained.

Needless to say, there doesn’t seem to be much sense behind throwing Wimbush to the wolves this week. Despite coming off a career high in passing yards against Wake Forest, Wimbush is still learning the ins and outs of being successful in the pass game.

With the combination of Adams’ potential for a big game and Wimbush’s inexperience as a passer, there’s little reason for Wimbush to try to take this game over with his arm. The Irish have proved that they are willing to ride or die with their run game up to this point, and it’s hard to see that approach changing anytime soon.
