2. Malik Rosier’s inexperience will show

Junior quarterback Malik Rosier is in his first year as a starter. So far this season he’s only faced one elite passing defense. That test came last week against the Virginia Tech Hokies. Miami won the game fairly handily, but Rosier struggled mightily through the air throwing three interceptions.

Rosier has led his team to a perfect record, but prior to last week’s game against the Hokies the Canes hadn’t beaten anyone of note. Before their 18-point victory in Week 10 Miami had beaten their last four opponents by a combined margin of 18 points. That included a one point win over Georgia Tech and a last second touchdown to edge Florida State by four.

This is the biggest game that Rosier has ever played in his career. The Irish have already amassed an impressive list of Top 25 wins. The Notre Dame secondary is not nearly as stout as Virginia Tech’s, but it isn’t North Carolina either. It is good enough to pressure an untested quarterback.

It’s game’s like this one where Miami is going to miss running back Mark Walton who was lost for the season with an angle injury. That puts the pressure back on Rosier and he’s not ready to handle it, not yet.
