Louisville Football: Lamar Jackson deserves Heisman consideration
Everyone has forgotten about Lamar Jackson amidst a dreadful Louisville football season. Nevertheless, he still belongs in the 2017 Heisman Trophy race.
Lamar Jackson is facing nearly impossible odds when it comes to the 2017 Heisman Trophy. He’s playing for a wretched team and faces the stigma of being a return winner. While both of those things are true they can’t erase Jackson’s terrific junior season go away.
The Heisman race has been wide open all season. First it was Saquon Barkley. Then it was Bryce Love. Baker Mayfield is the current favorite, but he stands just as much of a chance at regressing as any of the other earlier season favorites.
As the rest of the field continues to churn, Jackson remains consistent. He’s not getting the prime time games and that’s limiting his exposure. But just because he’s not getting love from ESPN, CBS or ABC doesn’t mean his case a return trip to New York is any less legitimate.
His name has slid further and further from national prominence but Lamar Jackson is more than deserving of a trip to New York at the very least. Here are three reasons why Jackson’s omission from the Heisman conversation needs to stop now.
