2. Texas A&M Aggies

The Texas A&M Aggies are a great fit for Mike Leach for a variety of reasons. Mike Leach was once the head football coach at Texas Tech, had a cameo in Friday Night Lights which was predominantly filmed around Austin, Texas, and featured the fictional Dillon (Texas) Panthers, and has recruited the area and understands the Texas football culture and climate which is like no other on the planet.

Leach also has an outstanding issue with the state of Texas and Texas Tech which could give A&M reason to hire him, but also reason to pause.

Mike Leach and Kevin Sumlin don’t run the same but do run an offense in the same family tree. The current Aggies head football coach, Kevin Sumlin, is under fire for putting up A&M’s best seasons in recent memory (yeah, no one outside of College Station really gets their issue with him) and used to coach under Bob Stoops just like Leach. Sumlin and Leach are also connected to Art Briles, the Houston Cougars, and really just guys cut from a similar coaching cloth while not being that similar in their PR personalities.

What A&M does have to offer for Leach is a much improved budget, a higher salary for himself as A&M is willing to spend big even flirting with the idea of Jimbo Fisher and his monumental buyout from Florida State, as well as being in a recruiting hotbed in Texas and in the SEC with the benefits of the SEC Network and frustrating Nick Saban until Saban retires in a few years. Those are all items that would make Leach take a look at a place like A&M, where expectations far outreach their actual output over the past fifty years of college football.
