Butch Jones has officially been fired, following the Volunteers loss to the Missouri Tigers over the weekend. It was a new low for the Vols, falling to a surging Missouri squad, but an inevitable outcome as well. Tennessee has been lifeless for awhile now and the Tigers took advantage. There is not one thing positive about this teams performance and there hasn’t been anything good you could really say about the Vols for most of 2017.

From here, the momentum for Tennessee falls to it coaching search. It’s highly doubtful that Tennessee will move out of the 14 spot before the season ends, and extremely unlikely that they will make a bowl game.

The Gators join their SEC East rival at the bottom of the barrel for the conference. Florida had a good game, in their context of their season, against South Carolina. Their offense was still unable to get enough points to win and the defense made mistakes like the fumble in the endzone on what would’ve been a pick six. Interim head coach Randy Shannon is doing what he can to keep the Gators competitive but the previous two time defending SEC East champ won’t even make a bowl game this season.

Much like Tennessee, the full attention of the Gator fanbase has gone to the head coaching search and to basketball. As of now, based on reports, Chip Kelly looks likely to be the Gators new coach but I wouldn’t rule out Scott Frost from UCF. No matter who the next coach is, the disaster of the 2017 season will haunt this program for a couple seasons to come.
